A Blue Carbon project is an environmental initiative focused on the conservation, restoration, and sustainable anagement of coastal and marine ecosystems, primarily mangroves, seagrasses, and salt marshes.
These ecosystems are sometimes referred to as “blue carbon” habitats because they have a remarkable capacity to sequester and store large amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. Blue carbon ecosystems, much like forests on land, play a vital role in mitigating climate change.
